When Annapolis-based photographer Sarah Culver (sarahculverphotography.com) needed a second shooter in a pinch, I jumped at the chance to help her out.  Not only had I admired Sarah’s work for a long time (I first noticed her work when I was hired to photograph a wedding at Woodend Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, MD and came across a wedding she had photographed there as well), but  the opportunity to work as a second shooter can be such a great way to flex your creative muscles as you take a little more time than usual to capture various perspectives of the wedding day.  (I took the first shot below as I unloaded my camera gear in a holding room and spotted this gorgeous scene unfolding!)   Sarah was a delight to work with, and the entire wedding was filled with a feeling of bliss between not only the bride and groom but among all the guests as well.  The joy was contagious!  This was my first time at the Wye River Estate, and it quickly became one of my new favorite locations.

When I met Laura and Kyle for brunch at one of my favorite local coffee houses, 49 West in Annapolis, it was November 2015 and I had finished my last round of chemo just days before and I had so much to be thankful for that Thanksgiving.  Meeting them was a breath of fresh air after such a long time focused inward.  Laura and I knew each other in high school, when her sister Julie was in my class, and their family was always a special part of my life.  As the three of us chatted over tea and muffins, I immediately noticed a beautiful ease about Laura and Kyle, an unspoken language between them.  They talked about choosing the rolling hills of Walker’s Overlook for their reception – something they envisioned as a casual, summertime afternoon, complete with backyard games and guests’ children swinging on the estate’s old wooden tree swing.  Every bit of their vision for their wedding day seemed to come true for them, and I wish them so many happy years enjoying that beautiful, easy connection they so obviously share.
